The Gold Coast airport hotel with $50 million, which will officially start construction this month with city approval, includes not only the hotel but also an attached convention center, local gold coast newspaper Bulletin reports. In addition, the hotel developers have put the preparation of the second hotel into the short - term plan.
Mr Robinson is working with Nicholas Paspaley, a jewellery tycoon, to develop the hotel. A total of about 200 rooms on seven floors, the hotel's observation deck overlooks Kirra beach, the airport runway and spectacular mountain views. In addition, there is a restaurant, a swimming pool and a multi-functional conference hall. It is reported that after the upgrade of the existing terminal, tourists will walk only 75 meters from the hotel to the gate for collecting tickets and checking in luggage.
Chris Mills, chief executive of Queensland airport group, said: "there is no airport hotel in the country that can compete with this, with the endless ocean view on one side and the runway on the other.
"We do not want people to think this just as a hotel, but we want people to be able to relax and have fun here. It will be the best airport hotel in Australia.”
Mr Mills said: "I'm not at all worried about occupancy at this hotel and the developer has asked us if we can build a second one. In our future hotel area planning, it is totally possible to accommodate a second hotel."
"The preparation of the airport hotel is an important part of our overall airport plan to ensure the continued rapid development of the Gold Coast Airport, which will be a commercial, educational and living complex on the east coast of Queensland and north New South Wales."
Hotel developer Robinson said: "the Gold Coast Airport has had its best days, with officials expecting a total of eight million visitors in 2019. I was asked if I had done any market research when I decided to develop the airport. I can answer with certainty: no! When you know that eight million people a year are going to be here, you don't have to consider about that much.
It is reported that the hotel project will start at the end of this year, and will be expected to be officially put into operation in 2019.
